Lonely Planet places it about 2 km north of Lazi town along a sealed road, and travel guides describe three levels of falls dropping into three pools of clear, turquoise water before the stream continues toward Lazi Bay. It is one of the most frequently listed swimming spots on Siquijor, and most full-day island tours include a stop here.
\n
The three tiers
\n
The water steps down in three stages, and each level has its own pool. The individual drops are low rather than tall, so the appeal lies in the sequence of pools rather than in one tall cascade. The Philippine Daily Inquirer notes that the smaller, shallower pools above the main falls suit children, and visitor guides mention cliff-jumping spots upstream. Visitors can stay at one level or move through all three.
\n
Getting there and down to the water
\n
From Lazi, a paved road leads to the falls. Lonely Planet describes a parking bay above the falls, with a steep stairway starting just across the road. Guides disagree on the length of the descent: Rappler counts about 130 steps, and other guides give about 100 or 132 to 135, so expect roughly 100 to 135 steps each way. One guide says the staircase can be slippery in the rain. The climb back up is part of every visit. One guide estimates about 30 minutes by road from the main tourist area of San Juan.
\n
Rope swing and other activities
\n
The best-known activity is the rope swing, a rope tied to a tree beside the pool that lets swimmers drop into the water. Bamboo-raft rides are also reported. Many visitors simply swim and float in the pools. Snack and cold-drink stalls are reported near the parking area and at the top of the road.
\n
When to go
\n
The falls are described as one of the busiest sites on the island, largely because day tours routinely stop here. Guides advise arriving early, before the tour groups that tend to arrive mid-morning, and weekends and peak seasons are reported to be the busiest times. For the island as a whole, the Siquijor Provincial Tourism Office gives the dry season as November to May and recommends December to May for visiting.
\n
Nearby in Lazi
\n
\n
Lazi Church and Convent: the Spanish-era San Isidro Labrador Church, described as built of coral stone and hardwood, stands across the road from the convent, which houses the Siquijor Heritage Museum.
\n
Enchanted Balete Tree: an old fig tree in Barangay Campalanas, Lazi, with a small fish-spa pool at its base (covered in a separate article).
\n
Day-tour pairing: typical island tours combine the falls with the church and convent, the balete tree and Paliton Beach in San Juan, with lunch at a local restaurant.
\n
\n
Good to know
\n
\n
Lonely Planet cautions against leaving valuables unattended, noting that theft is not unusual.
\n
A 2025 blog advises water shoes, since the rocks are described as sharp and slippery, and a dry bag or waterproof pouch for phones and cash.
\n
General advice, not specific to this site: check the water depth and landing area with local attendants before using the rope swing or jumping, and take extra care after heavy rain.
\n
Small peso bills are handy for the entrance and activity charges, and drinking water and sun protection are worth carrying down the stairs.
\n
","featureStartsOn":null,"featureEndsOn":null,"createdByAdministratorId":1,"status":"Published","media":[{"name":"Cambugahay Falls, Lazi, Siquijor","type":"image","credit":"Lawrence Ruiz · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons","creditUrl":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cambugahay_Falls_01.JPG","url":{"original":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/cambugahay-falls-01-c02e145b-large.jpg","large":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/cambugahay-falls-01-c02e145b-large.jpg","medium":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/cambugahay-falls-01-c02e145b-medium.jpg","small":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/cambugahay-falls-01-c02e145b-small.jpg","thumbnail":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/cambugahay-falls-01-c02e145b-thumbnail.jpg"},"isDefault":true},{"name":"Cambugahay Falls and its turquoise pool, Lazi, Siquijor","type":"image","credit":"MarvinBikolano · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons","creditUrl":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cambugahay_Falls_at_Siguijor.jpg","url":{"original":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/cambugahay-falls-at-siguijor-d3a0f38e-large.jpg","large":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/cambugahay-falls-at-siguijor-d3a0f38e-large.jpg","medium":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/cambugahay-falls-at-siguijor-d3a0f38e-medium.jpg","small":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/cambugahay-falls-at-siguijor-d3a0f38e-small.jpg","thumbnail":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/cambugahay-falls-at-siguijor-d3a0f38e-thumbnail.jpg"}},{"name":"The tiered cascades of Cambugahay Falls, Lazi, Siquijor","type":"image","credit":"Peter V.
