{"success":true,"data":{"id":44,"title":"Getting Around Siquijor: The Circumferential Road, Motorbikes and Tricycles","slug":"Getting-Around-Siquijor:-The-Circumferential-Road-Motorbikes-and-Tricycles","content":"
Siquijor is small enough that a single coastal road, the circumferential road, links all six municipalities, and most visitors use it to move between beaches, waterfalls, churches and ports. This article summarizes what travel guides and public road data report about the road and the common ways of using it. Rental terms and fares are not quoted, because they change.
\n\n
The circumferential road
\n
The provincial tourism office describes the loop as a 75-kilometer circumferential road. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), in its 2024 road data for the province, lists the Siquijor Circumferential Road at about 75.25 kilometers, paved in concrete and asphalt. Some travel guides give shorter figures of roughly 70 to 72 kilometers. The figures are close, and any of them is fine for planning.
\n
Guides also note that the whole loop can be ridden in a single day by motorbike. That is possible on paper, but it leaves little time for stops, swimming or waterfalls.
\n\n
Motorbike
\n
Motorbikes are described as a familiar sight on the loop road, and several guides present riding the circuit as a popular way to see the island. Shops and accommodations that hire out motorbikes exist, and rates and conditions vary. Before accepting a bike, it helps to ask about:
\n
\n
what documents are required, including whether a foreign driver's license is accepted;
\n
whether an ID or deposit is held, and when it is returned;
\n
whether helmets are provided, since helmet use is a legal requirement for motorcycle riders in the Philippines;
\n
the fuel policy and who pays for damage, and whether any insurance applies.
\n
\n\n
Tricycles and hired transport
\n
Tricycles, motorcycles with a passenger sidecar, are standard local transport in Philippine towns, and visitor reports describe reaching the Tulapos Marine Sanctuary in Enrique Villanueva by tricycle from the main road. For a longer day with several stops, travelers commonly negotiate a half-day or full-day hire. Agree on the price and the route before setting off.
\n
Vans or private transfers with a driver may be arranged through accommodations or tour operators. Ask your host or the municipal tourism office for current options.
\n\n
Driving cautions
\n
\n
Road quality varies. The DPWH data rates stretches of the loop from good to poor, so expect rough patches along the way.
\n
Traffic keeps to the right, and tricycles, motorbikes, pedestrians and animals share the road, especially in town centers.
\n
Weather matters. Wet pavement changes braking distances, and heavy rain can make a day of riding unpleasant or unsafe.
\n
Plan to finish before dusk where possible, since lighting outside the towns cannot be assumed.
\n
Refuel in the main towns before heading to quieter stretches.
\n
Inspect the bike before leaving the shop: brakes, lights, tires and horn, and take photos of existing scratches.
\n
\n\n
Planning a loop
\n
Because the road passes through every municipality, a loop can be organized by town: ports and the provincial capital in Siquijor, Larena, Lazi, Maria, San Juan and Enrique Villanueva. A full circuit with sightseeing stops is usually better split across two days than squeezed into one, and starting from the town where you are staying avoids backtracking. Check the opening times and entrance arrangements of any attraction you plan to visit, since these change.
\n\n
Good to know
\n
\n
The loop is about 75 km according to the provincial tourism office and the DPWH 2024 road data (75.25 km); some guides say 70 to 72 km.
\n
Rental prices, fares and van services are not listed here because they change.
\n
Wear a helmet, carry your license and the rental papers, and avoid riding after drinking.
\n
A tricycle is the simplest option for short hops between a pier, a beach or a sanctuary and the main road.
\n
Download an offline map before leaving, as a precaution.
\n
","featureStartsOn":null,"featureEndsOn":"2027-05-09","createdByAdministratorId":2,"status":"Published","media":[{"name":"The Siquijor circumferential road","type":"image","credit":"Lawrence Ruiz · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons","creditUrl":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Siquijor_Road_01.JPG","url":{"original":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-01-b0345a8d-large.jpg","large":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-01-b0345a8d-large.jpg","medium":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-01-b0345a8d-medium.jpg","small":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-01-b0345a8d-small.jpg","thumbnail":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-01-b0345a8d-thumbnail.jpg"},"isDefault":true},{"name":"The Siquijor circumferential road along the coast","type":"image","credit":"Lawrence Ruiz · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons","creditUrl":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Siquijor_Road_02.JPG","url":{"original":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-02-af760e50-large.jpg","large":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-02-af760e50-large.jpg","medium":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-02-af760e50-medium.jpg","small":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-02-af760e50-small.jpg","thumbnail":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-02-af760e50-thumbnail.jpg"}}],"createdAt":"2026-10-07T14:42:29.460Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-07T16:36:15.102Z","deletedAt":null,"defaultImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-01-b0345a8d-large.jpg","defaultThumbnailImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-01-b0345a8d-thumbnail.jpg","defaultMediumImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-01-b0345a8d-medium.jpg","defaultSmallImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-01-b0345a8d-small.jpg","imageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-road-01-b0345a8d-large.jpg","excerpt":"Siquijor is small enough that a single coastal road, the circumferential road, links all six municipalities, and most visitors use it to move between beaches, waterfalls, churches and ports.","isFeatured":false,"readingTimeInMinutes":4},"message":"Article retrieved successfully."}
