{"success":true,"data":{"id":52,"title":"Salagdoong Beach in Maria: Twin Coves, a Forest Road and Cliff-Jump Platforms","slug":"Salagdoong-Beach-in-Maria:-Twin-Coves-a-Forest-Road-and-Cliff-Jump-Platforms","content":"
Salagdoong Beach is in Barangay Olang, in the municipality of Maria, on the eastern side of Siquijor. A large rock splits the bay into two small coves, and that rock carries the cliff-jump platforms the beach is best known for. The beach is run as Salagdoong Beach Resort, which also includes Hotel Agripino.
\n
Getting there
\n
The beach is reached by a short road through Salagdoong Forest, a planted forest that travel writers describe as a pleasant lead-in to the shore. Check a current map or ask at your accommodation for transport options and travel times.
\n
The two coves and the rock
\n
One travel blog describes one cove as the longer of the two, with concrete steps and cottages set under shade trees, and the other as more curved, with rock formations worn into shape by the sea. Between them stands a high rock from which swimmers dive into deeper water. One source describes the sand on the left-hand side as white and scattered with broken coral, pebbles and shells. Writers describe the water as clear and turquoise.
\n
Cliff jumping
\n
Two concrete jumping platforms are reported, but sources disagree on their heights. Published figures put the lower platform at roughly 5 to 9 metres and the higher at roughly 10 to 12 metres: about 20 and 35 feet (roughly 6 and 11 metres), 5 and 10 metres, 7 and 10 metres, and 6 to 12 metres in Lonely Planet. These are estimates, so treat all of them as approximate. A water slide on the rock has also been reported, though it has not always been in working order. Several guides advise jumping at high tide, and one warns that jumping can be unsafe at low tide, so check the tide and the rules posted on site before jumping.
\n
Swimming and snorkelling
\n
Several guides list snorkelling as an activity, and two travel guides report coral and reef fish just off the shore. Ask locally about conditions, tides and whether equipment can be rented.
\n
The resort and its reopening
\n
The Philippine Information Agency reported that Salagdoong Beach Resort officially reopened to the public on 11 September 2023, after a long closure linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, and noted that the beach is under a Forest Land Use Agreement for Tourism with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The complex includes rooms and duplexes as well as Hotel Agripino, and reviews mention a restaurant selling food and drinks. The resort is government-run: the Philippine News Agency calls it the Salagdoong Public Beach Resort and reported in 2021 that the Siquijor provincial government would receive a Land Bank loan to help rehabilitate it.
\n
Nearby
\n
Salagdoong is usually reached as part of a circuit of the island. One travel blog's island tour pairs it with the balete tree in Lazi, the churches and Cambugahay Falls.
\n
Good to know
\n
\n
Confirm fees and opening hours on arrival.
\n
General advice: confirm water depth and a clear landing area with staff before any jump, never jump alone, and skip it if the sea is rough or the tide is low.
\n
Water shoes help on wet or sharp rock and on the coral-strewn sand.
\n
Bring sun protection and drinking water, or buy them at the resort.
\n
","featureStartsOn":null,"featureEndsOn":null,"createdByAdministratorId":2,"status":"Published","media":[{"name":"Salagdoong Beach, Maria,
