{"success":true,"data":{"id":41,"title":"The Six Towns of Siquijor at a Glance","slug":"The-Six-Towns-of-Siquijor-at-a-Glance","content":"
Siquijor province has six municipalities. Population figures below are from the 2020 census and land areas from the Philippine Statistics Authority's 2013 figures, as compiled by PhilAtlas; the six land areas add up to the province's 337.49 square kilometers. Attractions are those named in published travel and reference sources.
\n\n
Siquijor (the capital)
\n
The provincial capital has 28,915 residents (2020) and 90.70 sq km of land, the most of any town on the island. It is divided into 42 barangays. Travel guides describe a small town with a Spanish-era church, St. Francis of Assisi, within walking distance of the port. Cantabon Cave, a guided cave walk, is listed under this town. Mt. Bandila-an, the island's highest peak, rises near Cantabon; the provincial tourism office gives its height as 557 meters, while other sources give about 628 meters.
\n\n
Larena
\n
Larena (14,454 people, 49.81 sq km) is a port town and was formerly called Can-oan. Sources describe it as a long-standing commercial and ferry hub. Larena Park, Sandugan Beach and the bell tower of San Vicente Ferrer Church are listed as sights.
\n\n
Lazi
\n
Lazi (22,488 people, 70.64 sq km) was formerly Tigbawan. It is known for the San Isidro Labrador church and convent, declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum in 2001. The stone church was completed in 1884 and the convent built between 1887 and 1891, of coral stone and hardwood; a historical marker at the site calls the convent one of the largest in the Philippines. The complex has been on the UNESCO tentative list since 2006. Cambugahay Falls, a three-tiered waterfall with turquoise pools reached by a long stone staircase, is also in Lazi.
\n\n
Maria
\n
Maria has 14,385 people and 53.37 sq km. Salagdoong Beach, known for turquoise water and diving platforms of different heights, is listed under Maria, although some guides describe it as lying between Maria and Enrique Villanueva. Travel sites also list the Our Lady of Divine Providence church.
\n\n
San Juan
\n
San Juan (16,363 people, 44.37 sq km) was formerly Makalipay. At 369 people per sq km it is the most densely populated town. Resorts, restaurants and dive shops cluster along the beach stretch between Solangon and Paliton. Paliton Beach is noted for its palm trees and fine white sand, while Solangon is described as longer and quieter. The Tubod Marine Sanctuary, a reef protected for more than 30 years, is a popular snorkeling spot where clownfish and giant clams are commonly seen.
\n\n
Enrique Villanueva
\n
Enrique Villanueva has 6,790 residents (2020) and 28.60 sq km, making it the smallest town by both measures. It has 14 barangays. Tulapos Marine Sanctuary, established in 1986 and described as the island's oldest marine protected area, has mangroves and reefs. One source says visitors must snorkel with a guide.
\n\n
Good to know
\n
\n\n
These are 2020 census figures; the 2024 census has since reported updated counts.
\n
Entry fees, guide requirements and hours at sanctuaries and falls change, so check locally.
\n
Some attraction details come from travel blogs and booking sites rather than official sources.
\n
","featureStartsOn":null,"featureEndsOn":null,"createdByAdministratorId":1,"status":"Published","media":[{"name":"Aerial view of Siquijor Island","type":"image","credit":"Patrickroque01 · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons","creditUrl":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Siquijor_Island_from_air_(Siquijor%3B_08-11-2023).jpg","url":{"original":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-island-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-717276fd-large.jpg","large":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-island-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-717276fd-large.jpg","medium":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-island-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-717276fd-medium.jpg","small":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-island-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-717276fd-small.jpg","thumbnail":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-island-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-717276fd-thumbnail.jpg"},"isDefault":true},{"name":"Aerial view of the Lazi and Maria coast, Siquijor","type":"image","credit":"Patrickroque01 · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons","creditUrl":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lazi-Maria_from_air_(Siquijor%3B_08-11-2023).jpg","url":{"original":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/lazi-maria-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-3bdbc685-large.jpg","large":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/lazi-maria-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-3bdbc685-large.jpg","medium":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/lazi-maria-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-3bdbc685-medium.jpg","small":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/lazi-maria-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-3bdbc685-small.jpg","thumbnail":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/lazi-maria-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-3bdbc685-thumbnail.jpg"}}],"createdAt":"2026-10-07T14:42:27.775Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-07T16:36:15.102Z","deletedAt":null,"createdByAdministrator":{"id":1,"username":"ynnorj","firstName":"Jronny","lastName":"Amarante","birthdate":"1990-01-01","address":null,"nationality":"Philippines","gender":"Male","type":"Administrator","imageUrl":null,"createdAt":"2026-05-30T18:07:33.311Z","updatedAt":"2026-05-30T18:07:33.311Z","deletedAt":null,"roleId":1,"permissions":null,"fullName":"Jronny Amarante","label":"Jronny Amarante","age":36,"isAdult":true,"hasActiveVisitorCard":false},"defaultImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-island-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-717276fd-large.jpg","defaultThumbnailImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-island-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-717276fd-thumbnail.jpg","defaultMediumImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-island-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-717276fd-medium.jpg","defaultSmallImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-island-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-717276fd-small.jpg","imageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/siquijor-island-from-air-siquijor-08-11-2023-717276fd-large.jpg","excerpt":"Siquijor province has six municipalities.
