{"success":true,"data":{"id":59,"title":"Beaches of Siquijor: A Town-by-Town Roundup Along the Loop Road","slug":"beaches-of-siquijor-loop-road-roundup","content":"
Wikivoyage describes Siquijor's coast as mostly white-sand beach. The entries below follow the loop road, the roughly 75 km Siquijor Circumferential Road: from Siquijor town through San Juan and Lazi to Maria, then past Enrique Villanueva to Larena and back to Siquijor town. The Siquijor Provincial Tourism Office's coastal itinerary runs in the same direction. Each entry notes where a beach is described as suiting swimming, or as mainly a place for the view and the sunset.
\n
Siquijor town: Calalinan and Dumanhog
\n
Calalinan Beach and Dumanhog white beach lie west of the port, in the Siquijor town barangays of Calalinan and Dumanhog. Ask locally about access, swimming and tides before planning a stop.
\n
San Juan: Paliton, Solangon and Tubod
\n
Paliton Beach (Barangay Paliton) faces west. The tourism office describes white sand, clear water and a long line of coconut palms, counts the beach among the island's marine protected areas, and in its inland itinerary names swimming, snorkeling and sunset as the draws. Tatler Asia calls the water calm and shallow, and Lonely Planet notes views of Apo Island. For the way in, Lonely Planet says to turn off at the small church in Paliton village, close to the island's most westerly tip, and follow a paved track for roughly a kilometre; more empty white beach lies further west on foot. Several visitor accounts report that the sea draws far back at low tide along this coast, so swimming is easier near high tide.
\n
Solangon Beach (Barangay Solangon) lies just southeast of Paliton. Lonely Planet notes hammocks between the palms outside budget-friendly beach resorts. Visitor guides call it a long, quiet white-sand beach known for sunsets, with the main stretch reached through the grounds of Coral Cay Resort. Accounts differ on the water: one finds it too shallow for swimming or snorkeling, another suggests it for a swim or a paddle.
\n
Tubod Beach (Barangay Tubod) is the shore for Tubod Marine Sanctuary, which the tourism office places near Coco Grove Beach Resort. Lonely Planet says the island's best diving follows a wall running from Paliton southeast to Tubod, and Tatler Asia describes clear, calm water with clownfish and sea turtles. Visitors describe snorkeling from the beach into the sanctuary. The office's marine itinerary groups Tubod under its December to May heading. Follow the sanctuary's posted rules.
\n
Further along the loop road, Paradise Beach is on San Juan's south coast. Access, fees and swimming conditions are not listed here; ask locally.
\n
Maria: Kagusuan and Salagdoong
\n
Kagusuan Beach is in Barangay Minalulan, Maria, in the island's south-east. The tourism office describes a quiet beach with clear water, white sand and giant coral boulders behind it, and Wikivoyage notes a rock formation, a position below a cliff and a concrete staircase down. A 2013 Rappler account describes a wooded track, a staircase that is easy to miss and a marine sanctuary offshore where visitors snorkel or wade. Access needs care: listing-site reports describe a gate that is often shut and private land around the beach, and a travel blog reports it officially closed to the public as of early 2025. Seas are said to be rougher in bad weather. Check locally before making the trip.
\n
Salagdoong Beach (Barangay Olang, Maria) has its own guide on this site. In short, a rock divides the beach into two coves, and concrete platforms on the rock are used for jumping into deep water; published heights differ, and Lonely Planet gives 6 m to 12 m. The resort is government-run, and the road in passes through Salagdoong Forest.
\n
Larena and Siquijor town: Sandugan and Candanay Sur
\n
Sandugan Beach (Barangay Sandugan, Larena) is on the north coast. Lonely Planet calls it a very long beach known for sunsets, where small resorts hire out sea kayaks, and another beach guide describes fine white sand and clear water. One visitor account suggests swimming near high tide and wearing footwear, because at low tide visitors have to walk out to reach deeper water.
\n
Candanay Sur Beach (Barangay Candanay Sur) is on Siquijor town's north coast, just east of the port, with resorts along the shore. One travel roundup describes a lesser-known white-sand beach where tides suit swimming and snorkeling at any time of day, with a dive centre on the shore. Access, fees and swimming conditions are not listed here; ask locally.
\n
Which beach for what
\n
\n
Swimming and snorkeling, as described: Paliton Beach, Tubod Beach (snorkeling in the sanctuary) and Candanay Sur Beach. Swimming and jumping rules at Salagdoong Beach are set by the resort; confirm on arrival. Sandugan Beach is described for swimming at higher tides.
\n
Sunset and views: Paliton Beach, Solangon Beach and Sandugan Beach. Pitogo Cliff Nature Park in Tag-ibo, a sea cliff rather than a beach, is listed by the tourism office for its sea view and sunset.
\n
Quiet and remote: Kagusuan Beach, if it is open to visitors (see the access note above).
\n
\n
Before you go
\n
\n
Check a tide table: visitor accounts report that the sea draws far back at low tide at Paliton, along the San Juan shore and at Sandugan Beach.
\n
The tourism office gives the dry season as November to May and recommends December to May for visiting.
\n
The tourism office's reminders list single-use plastic as prohibited across the province, say smoking is prohibited in public places, especially on beaches, and ask visitors not to leave valuables unattended.
\n
General advice: water shoes or sandals help on rocky paths, and marine protected areas such as Paliton and Tubod have rules to follow.
\n
","featureStartsOn":null,"featureEndsOn":null,"createdByAdministratorId":1,"status":"Published","media":[{"name":"Salagdoong Beach, Maria,
