{"success":true,"data":{"id":58,"title":"Where to Stay Along the San Juan Beach Strip: Paliton to Solangon","slug":"where-to-stay-along-the-san-juan-beach-strip","content":"
San Juan, on Siquijor's southwest coast, is where beach stays cluster. The provincial tourism office calls it the island's tourism centre, and Rough Guides points to the San Juan area for accommodation across budgets. This guide covers the beachfront between Paliton Beach and Solangon Beach: what the area is like, what to expect from the water and the sunset, what lies within reach, the kinds of stay on offer and how it compares with the port towns of Siquijor town and Larena.
\n
What the area is like
\n
Wikivoyage describes San Juan as the main tourist area, spread along several kilometers of seaside, so many trips need a tricycle or jeepney. SunStar's 2023 guide lists convenience stores, ATMs, restaurants, spas and dive shops along the road. Paliton Beach sits at the western end: Lonely Planet says a turnoff by the village church leads along a sealed track of about 1 km to the sand, and Solangon Beach begins just to the southeast. Paliton faces the sunset and, per Lonely Planet, has views toward Apo Island; Solangon, just to the southeast, is also known for sunsets. Along this coast the character changes:
\n
\n
Paliton end. A small beach with drink stalls where visitors gather at sunset, Rough Guides says, close to the start of the dive wall described below.
\n
Solangon. Longer and fronted by resorts. One visitor account calls it calmer and more relaxed than Paliton, with water that mirrors the sky at sunset.
\n
Beyond Solangon, Tubod. Farther southeast beside the Tubod Marine Sanctuary, which the tourism office lists for turtle sightings and other marine life.
\n
\n
The water, the tide and the sunset
\n
Lonely Planet describes clear water at Paliton, and the tourism office adds white sand, coconut palms and a marine protected area. Water depth is the main caveat. Visitor accounts, all from blogs, differ. Three describe Solangon as shallow and tidal: at low tide it takes a long walk or a paddle to reach swimming depth, and the sand can be muddy or weedy. One of them advises timing a swim for high tide, and a fourth calls Solangon's water unsuitable for swimming. On Paliton, one account advises swimming at high tide, another finds the sea deeper than at Solangon, and a third says it is shallow even at high tide. A 2015 SunStar writer staying at a San Juan resort noted seaweed and sea urchin shells at the waterline and used the resort pool instead. Visitor accounts also mention coral-rock cliffs and caves along the shore near Paliton Beach.
\n
Snorkeling and diving are the other draw: Lonely Planet describes a dive wall running from Paliton Beach southeast to Tubod Beach, and Wikivoyage's older notes call San Juan's beach good for snorkeling and scuba diving. Sunsets are a third draw, and the tourism office lists Paliton among its sunset-viewing destinations. Check a tide table before planning around a swim.
\n
What is within reach
\n
Along the same coast, the Tubod Marine Sanctuary lies near Coco Grove Beach Resort, Lonely Planet puts Lugnason Falls 3 km up a paved road from Tubod, and the tourism office's mountain itinerary lists Pitogo Cliff Nature Park in Tag-ibo. East along the south coast are the Old Enchanted Balete Tree and, farther on, Cambugahay Falls in Lazi. Wikipedia lists the town of San Juan at 12 km from Siquijor town, where the main passenger port is.
\n
Kinds of stay
\n
The tourism office's accommodation directory, last updated in 2023, groups listings into resorts, \"Mabuhay accommodations\" and homestays or farm stays, and says it includes only properties that took part in a photo shoot, so it is a sample. For this coast it names Coral Cay Resort at Solangon and Coco Grove Beach Resort at Tubod among the resorts, and Dolce Amore Italian Restaurant & Resort at Paliton and White Villas Resort at Solangon among the Mabuhay accommodations. These are examples, not recommendations, and listings may have changed since 2023, so confirm that a property is operating before planning around it. Its entries also include guesthouses and inns in Solangon and Maite. A 2018 Lonely Planet feature describes hammocks strung between palms in front of backpacker-oriented resorts at Solangon, and Rough Guides names Solangon and Larena for leafy resorts. Wikivoyage notes that many hotels do not allow guests to bring in outside food, so ask about the policy before planning meals elsewhere.
\n
San Juan compared with the port towns
\n
\n
San Juan strip. SunStar says most of the island's resorts are here. Wikipedia gives about 12 km between San Juan and Siquijor town, and Larena lies on the far side of Siquijor town, so arrival and departure days include a road transfer.
\n
Siquijor town. The main gateway for boats from Dumaguete, with its Spanish-era church within walking distance of the port. Rough Guides describes a main street of cheap canteens and bakeries, The Freeman noted public beaches near the port, and Wikivoyage mentions white-sand beach resorts along the town's coast.
\n
Larena. The other port and, per the tourism office, the centre of commerce, with banks and the state college. North of town, the same 2018 feature describes Sandugan Beach as a sunset beach where resorts hire out sea kayaks, and Rough Guides names Sandugan, with San Juan, as a notable area for stays.
\n
\n
In short, the port towns shorten the transfers, while San Juan puts the beach, the restaurants and the dive shops at the door.
\n
Before you go
\n
\n
Ask how deep the water is in front of the stay at low tide, and whether it has a pool or kayaks.
\n
Paliton and the Tubod sanctuary are marine protected areas, so follow posted rules and keep off the coral.
\n
Holy Week can fill accommodations quickly, Rough Guides notes, so book early then.
\n
The tourism office's visitor reminders include no smoking at the beach and bringing a refillable bottle, as single-use plastic is prohibited.
\n
","featureStartsOn":null,"featureEndsOn":null,"createdByAdministratorId":1,"status":"Published","media":[{"name":"A white-sand beach on San Juan's coast","type":"image","description":"San Juan, Siquijor","credit":"Lawrence Ruiz · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons","creditUrl":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:San_Juan,_Siquijor_01.jpg","isDefault":true,"url":{"large":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/san-juan-siquijor-01-17730ec0-large.jpg","medium":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/san-juan-siquijor-01-17730ec0-medium.jpg","small":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/san-juan-siquijor-01-17730ec0-small.jpg","thumbnail":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/san-juan-siquijor-01-17730ec0-thumbnail.jpg","original":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/san-juan-siquijor-01-17730ec0-large.jpg"}},{"name":"Paliton Beach, San Juan, Siquijor","type":"image","credit":"Checawey · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons","creditUrl":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Paliton_Beach,_Siquijor,_Philippines.JPG","url":{"original":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/paliton-beach-siquijor-philippines-ab6613e5-large.jpg","large":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/paliton-beach-siquijor-philippines-ab6613e5-large.jpg","medium":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/paliton-beach-siquijor-philippines-ab6613e5-medium.jpg","small":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/paliton-beach-siquijor-philippines-ab6613e5-small.jpg","thumbnail":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/paliton-beach-siquijor-philippines-ab6613e5-thumbnail.jpg"},"isDefault":false,"description":"Paliton Beach"}],"createdAt":"2026-10-20T08:22:59.297Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-21T01:14:35.184Z","deletedAt":null,"defaultImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/san-juan-siquijor-01-17730ec0-large.jpg","defaultThumbnailImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/san-juan-siquijor-01-17730ec0-thumbnail.jpg","defaultMediumImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/san-juan-siquijor-01-17730ec0-medium.jpg","defaultSmallImageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/san-juan-siquijor-01-17730ec0-small.jpg","imageUrl":"https://srptrblsouylufxnqvxw.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/siquijor/images/commons/san-juan-siquijor-01-17730ec0-large.jpg","excerpt":"San Juan, on Siquijor's southwest coast, is where beach stays cluster.
