The Municipality of Siquijor marks the anniversary of its designation as the capital of the Province of Siquijor every September 12. President Ferdinand Marcos signed Proclamation No. 1075 on September 12, 1972, declaring the municipality the provincial capital. In recent years (2022 to 2026) Malacañang has declared September 12 a special non-working day in the municipality, and the proclamations count the anniversary from 1972 (the 51st in 2023 and the 54th in 2026).
In 2027 the date falls on a Sunday. The anniversary is separate from the provincial Siquijor Day on September 17.
Visitor note: the program for the anniversary varies from year to year and is set by the local government, so confirm it locally before planning a visit.
