The Lubi Festival is the festival of the Municipality of Maria, held for the town fiesta in honor of its patron, Our Lady of Divine Providence. Lubi is the local word for coconut. According to the provincial government, the festival is a thanksgiving for the bountiful harvest and blessings received from the coconut, the “tree of life”, and showcases the products and uses of the coconut, from its fruit to its palms and trunk.
The provincial government lists the Lubi Festival showdown, a dance contest portraying the festival, on May 21 each year as a highlight of the fiesta. Parish directories give May 24 as the feast day of Our Lady of Divine Providence, and the 2012 fiesta program ran from May 16 to 24, ending with a fiesta night on May 24.
Visitor note: Dates and programs are set by the local government and parish each year and may change, so confirm them locally before planning a visit.
